Rally report 7

As the survivors set off for the afternoon stages in Warcop and Lowther, the scale of this morning's difficulties has been emerging, with clerk of the course Tim Foster revealing that 22 cars had retired on the first stage alone!
Duncan Wardrop/Ian Crosbie (51) went out with a blown engine while Rob Brown Kenna/Chris Campbell also retired with driveshaft damage.
Chris and Peter McCallum made it to the end of Lowther but their car was too badly damaged to continue. It was a baptism of fire for Lachlan Cowan (111) who had a new car, new co-driver and it's his first time on the Pendragon!
Settle garage owner David Stubbs enlisted champion road rally driver Terry Martin to act as mapman for him, however his wheel-changing skills were more in evidence after a puncture.
Dave Thwaites and Tony Walker went off on the farmyard section but managed to get back on the road, albeit with a damaged manifold.

LATEST NEWS JUST IN: Dougi Hall has lost the lead of the rally on stage 7  (Bale Hill 1) after losing time when he suffered a puncture and was forced to stop and change a wheel.
